“Why is the club called a society verses a club?” My short answer to this question is that prior to 2005, one of the club members had a gallery who thought that it would be more formal to have us with the society name for hanging in that gallery. They voted that night and thus the name was changed. Before the change, the club was called a camera club since 1954. My suggestion is that we go back to the original name. After all, our website initials gnocc.org stands for Greater New Orleans Camera Club.
This is an item for discussion using this forum along with having a short discussion in July before voting on the change.

Talking with the judges after the competition, that the judge will indicate, “that was a lot of images/prints to view”. Through the same conversation, I hear that the judges take several hours of their valuable time over several days to view and comment on the images/prints. In addition, they are coming to the meetings to give comments in person. So how do we keep them interested in doing this without significantly reducing the entry numbers in competition? My suggestion is that we consider giving the judge a stipend of $50 for that work, starting with January 2011. The question will arise, “what if a club member does the judging?” My reply is that if they are willing to take a month, provide written/verbal critique of each entry, and not participate in that month’s competition, then they should have the same stipend. Now if it happens to be three club members asked to spontaneously judge at a competition night because we could not get a judge, no stipend. Thankfully, that has not happened recently. Several chairpersons are already compensating the judge out of their own pockets and if that is what you choose to do, great. However, I feel that is the club's responsibility.
